Darryl L. Laws, Ph.D. Founding Managing General
Partner
Dr. Laws brings an
extensive and broad investment experience to the Funds
management. He has been the Managing Principal of Charlotte
Square Capital Ventures, a global private equity firm
specializing in investing and buyouts in media, software and
telecom technology companies. The firm was formed with $30M of
his personal capital in 1987. Prior to his tenure he was
Senior Vice President of Capital Markets at First City
Industries, a NYSE listed company. A "corporate raider" in the
1980s and 90s, whose majority shares are owned by the
infamous Canadian Belzberg brothers. While at FCI he was an
instrumental team leader in structuring and financing hostile
take-overs. Prior to this, Dr. Laws held positions at Drexel
Burnham Lambert, Trammell Crow Company and E.W. Hahn, Inc. He
received post-graduate degrees from Long Beach State
University, Edinburgh University Graduate School of Business
and a Doctorate in Finance from the London School of Economics
and Political Science in 1995. Dr. Laws runs the US and
European offices.
Kyuyeong Jeong, Associate.
Mr. Jeong is responsible for the valuation and financial analysis of investment opportunities at CPE. Mr. Jeongs technical background and experience with Koreas largest mobile carrier, SK Telecom, provided him with the opportunity to work in various areas of responsibility from systems engineering and project management, to corporate strategy and analysis of new ventures. Mr. Jeong also had the opport Access Softek Ventures, a Berkley based investment Fund specialized in the software industry. He has recently completed his MBA at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, in Durham, North Carolina. He also holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Chungnam National University in Daejeon, Korea. This combination of technical knowledge with practical experience in the field, and strong analytical skills make Mr. Jeong a very valuable asset to our team. Mr. Jeong will have the most advanced proprietary valuation and modeling tools available to him. The result of more than 20 years of development and fine-tuning.
Pascal Vinarnic, Investment Advisory Board Senior Member
Mr. Vinarnic holds dual English and French citizenships. He is multilingual in
English, French, Spanish and Portuguese. Until 2000 he was a partner in a London
based early stage investment PE fund, Cesmig & Co., with respectively Euro 25 million
and Euro 15 million for investment. Between 1992 and 1998 and more recently, founded
and managed his own investment advisory practice, Ceres Financial, (London and
Paris) which specialized in hands on operational restructuring assignments. From
1984 to 1992 Pascal established Bain Venture Capitals Paris operations and
headed Bain Financial Services Group that supported the VC through advisory on
LBO, M&A and corporate financial services to Bains Continental Europe portfolio
of companies. Pascal started his career at Revlon International in 1983 after
graduating from Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales. Pascal is 41 years old and
resides in London.
Greg Bartko, Esq. Registered Broker & Dealer
Chief executive officer Capstone Partners, L.C.,
and a principal owner of an NASD-investment
banking boutique, which was formed to assist
emerging growth companies in structuring and
successfully locating equity and debt capital.
Mr. Bartko also practices corporate and securities
law in Atlanta, Georgia as a sole practitioner
and routinely represents corporations desiring to
conduct public offerings and those that already
are public companies trading their securities on
one or more national securities exchanges.
Prior to becoming an officer and principal in his
own firm Mr. Bartko was a partner at Glass,
McCullough, Sherrill & Harrold, in Atlanta,
Georgia. From 1992 to 1996 Mr. Bartko was a
partner at Graham & James’ Raleigh, N.C. and
Atlanta, Georgia. His primary responsibilities
included all corporate, securities, mergers,
acquisition, and joint venture activities at the
firm. From 1989 to 1992 Mr. Bartko was a
partner with Reynolds, Bryant, Patterson &
Covington, P.A., and Raleigh, NC. They are a
Research Triangle-based law firm with
emphasis on securities and commercial practice.
Responsibilities included representation of
public and privately-held emerging growth
companies as well as large North Carolina-based
bank holding companies and performing similar
duties as with current firm.
